The Ethical Data Initiative (EDI) and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering a collaborative partnership to advance responsible data initiatives and enhance communication within the realms of data ethics and scientific governance.

This MoU signifies a commitment to work together towards common goals that emphasise the significance of responsible data usage and ethical practices in science and technology. By aligning their missions, the two organisations aim to promote equity, inclusivity, and engagement across different domains of data work for the public good.

The EDI, a non-partisan platform jointly coordinated by the University of Exeter and the TUM Think Tank at the Technical University of Munich, focuses on open discussions surrounding data ethics. It draws insight from a variety of disciplines, including philosophy, history, law, and data science. The EDI’s initiatives prioritise education and collaboration, recognising the need to integrate ethical data practices into the everyday work of various sectors.

The Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) is a research institute at Leiden University dedicated to enhancing the practice and governance of science, as well as exploring its role in society. They conduct research, provide training and consultancy services, and participate in policy-making related to science and technology.

In addition to sharing resources and expertise, both organisations will engage in joint activities such as workshops and the creation of openly available resources, with the aim of furthering their collective impact on pertinent issues related to data ethics and scientific communication.
