A new EDI report examines the current integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the Fintech sectors of Kenya, Nigeria, and Rwanda. While much of the digital transformation in these regions has been driven by mobile money, the shift toward AI-driven systems is fundamentally changing how financial services are delivered.
Fintech is not a neutral tool; its impact depends on the ethical frameworks and oversight mechanisms governing its use. By analyzing the data journeys of credit scoring, as well as their challenges, risks, and opportunities, this research offers insights for researchers, policymakers and entrepreneurs to ensure that innovation aligns with inclusive governance and public trust.
The report is the outcome of the EDI’s first Data Clinic, in which TUM Masters students worked interactively on a challenge proposed by Ridwan Oloyede, Director of our partner organization, the Center for Law and Innovation at the Certa Foundation.
